Planning a Traditional Festive Wedding

Christmas is the perfect time to get married if you ask us. The sumptuous colours and fabrics that are best associated with the season, the hearty food and the promise of a fluttering of snow all make for a truly magical day.

If you’re a bit of a traditionalist at heart and want to plan a wedding that reflects that, then we’re here to help. Below is a quick guide to what we think are the staples of a traditional Christmas wedding.

If you’re going for something truly traditional, then deep reds are where it’s at for you when it comes to the colour chart. However, if you’re willing to stray a little bit from burgundy then why not consider plums and aubergines (we’re talking about the colours, rather than the fruits!) for something that still says ‘Christmas’ but without being too staid.

If you’re looking for a festive centrepiece, then how about lanterns with wreaths wrapped around their bases? Not only will they give your tables a feeling of festivity, but the candles will provide romantic low lighting that will suit the occasion.

When it comes to favours, how about personalised baubles? These are easy to make yourself (provided you have a fairly steady hand!) and will give your guests something they can keep forever. Or, if you’re more of a foodie couple, then how about jars filled with all the dry ingredients necessary to make a luxurious and decadent hot chocolate? Or, even better, the spices for mulled wine?

If there’s nothing you love more than a good Christmas dinner, then we think it’s fairly obvious what your menu is going to look like. Add a bit of a modern twist to some of the more classic options – not everybody likes fruit cake, for example, so why not offer yule log instead? Or, if you’re not a fan of turkey then choose a rich game bird. Oh, and of course it’s an absolute must for the carnivores that your potatoes are roasted in goose fat – an extra-special treat for an extra-special day.

At Northbrook Park there are few things we love more than helping couples plan for their festive weddings – they’re just so romantic that we can’t help but get swept up in the excitement ourselves!
