Catch The Mudeford Ferry to Hengistbury Head

Ahoy sailors & seaside adventurers! We have a day trip perfect for you.

For those that fancy taking in the sights by sea, your adventure starts at Mudeford Quay, where you’ll find the Mudeford Ferry setting off every 15 minutes across our seriously beautiful coastline to Hengistbury Head.

A local nature reserve, Hengistbury Head is one of the most important places here on the south coast of England, as it is home to a plethora of nationally and internationally significant archaeological sites, with features dating from the Late Upper Palaeolithic to the Roman settlement of Britain. While there is so much history to be uncovered, Hengistbury Head boasts some of the most spectacular walking routes in the area, with panoramic views of the nature reserve, Christchurch Harbour (where you’ll spot us!), Bournemouth Bay and all across to the Isle of Wight. There are so many habitats to be enjoyed including heathland, grassland, scrub, woodland, freshwater wetland and of course, coastland.

On arrival, we’d recommend heading up to the Visitor Centre to pick up a trail map to kick-start your adventure, while you’re there you can walk around the exhibition to learn more about the area and speak to the experts on site on where to start and what to look out for.

If the thought of catching a ferry makes you feel a little queasy, not to worry! You can adventure to Hengistbury Head by bike, foot, car or land train - the choice is yours.
