Museums

If you’re planning a visit to Chichester, then there’s a pretty good chance you’re here to see, learn and discover some of the magnificent history and culture in and around our city. If so, then here’s our low-down on some of our local museums…

  • Tangmere Aviation Museum: Located on the corner of the former Tangmere airfield, the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum was opened in 1982 by a group of aviation enthusiasts who wanted to promote and preserve the United Kingdom’s military aviation heritage, to be a place of education and to also serve as a memorial to airmen and airwomen who gave their lives in the services of this country. Since that time it has been entirely managed by volunteers and was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2017. With an impressive display of historic aircraft and a unique collection of aviation memorabilia from the First World War through to the Cold War and refreshments available in their Cockpit Cafe, you’re in for a wonderfully historic and interesting time!
  • The Novium Museum: Located in the city centre just a 5 minute walk from us you’ll find The Novium Museum which currently has an exciting new exhibition on show The Magic of Middle Earth. Dedicated to the magic of Middle-Earth and the much-loved works of J.R.R. Tolkien including The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the exhibition is a treasure trove of objects, artworks, costumes and even a soundscape.
