Walking Routes in Chichester

Whether it’s a leisurely stroll, a ramble through the local woods or a full city exploration, there’s plenty of walking routes sure to give you the best views, scenery, sounds and taste of adventure our city has to offer. Here are some of our favourites…

  • Chichester Canal Walk (4 miles): Spend an hour or two exploring Chichester’s secret waterway on this seriously stunning 4-mile towpath stretching from the Canal Basin to Chichester Marina. Passing through swathes of open farmland with trodden paths ripe for exploring, take a seat for a well-earned picnic on one of the many benches along the way, and make sure to take some time to take in the beautiful wildlife including ducks, swans, woodpeckers and even kingfishers along the way.
  • West Marden Circular Walk (just over 5 miles): A popular route for those looking for a bit more adventure, this walk is a little more challenging and will take around 2.5 hours to complete. Taking you through the countryside of South Downs, expect to see some sheep and cattle along the way!
  • West Wittering Beach Circular (3 miles): Looking for a relaxing and easy stroll? Then this one's for you. Taking just under an hour to complete, this rather lovely route takes you across one of our favourite local beaches, West Wittering Beach. Ideal for cycling, walking or running, but do check the tides before heading out. We’d also recommend taking your swimmers, so you can enjoy a dip at the end!

Whether you’re walking, running, hiking or cycling we know it can be hard work, so be sure to book a table at our restaurant The Ship to refuel. You’ve earned it!
